Friday in Manchester!

Get an early start by heading out to the Aviation Museum of N.H., located alongside the main runway at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport. From the museum’s parking lot, enjoy close-up views of cargo and passenger aircraft taking off and landing.

At 10:00 am head into the historic 1937 Art deco style airline terminal where you’ll find displays telling the stories of the Granite State’s colorful aviation pioneers including Thaddeus Lowe, a Civil War-era balloonist and Astronaut Alan Shepard. Explore hands-on exhibits to help you understand the physics and science behind flight. Try your hand at piloting with the museum’s professional-grade flight simulator. Learn about the important role that aviation and aviation education plays in the region’s economy. Docents will be able to answer all your questions and point out the hidden gems of the collection.

When you are ready, set your flight plan and head off to the Currier Museum of Art. The Currier is a world-class art museum that welcomes visitors from around the country and across the globe. At the Currier, great art is the beginning of a beautiful experience. Grab lunch or a snack in the airy Winter Garden Café and then head to the galleries. Guided tours and “Looking Together” sessions are free with museum admission and offer an accessible starting point. In addition, the Discovery Gallery, located in the Historic Court just off the lobby, offers family-friendly art activities. The Currier’s gem-like size allows you to view iconic masterpieces alongside lesser-known and contemporary works within a single visit. From Picasso to Monet to O’Keefe, you can see it at the Currier. Consider adding a tour of the two Frank Lloyd Wright houses the museum stewards to your visit

After hours, take in some public art as you choose your dinner destination. Manchester has amazing local fare for all tastes and budgets. in the Queen City!

Start your day with a great breakfast at one of the city’s wonderful cafés. Explore public art including the many murals and sculpture of Ralph Baer -father of video games – at Arms Park (You will be able to learn more about Ralph at your next two stops).

Head over to the Millyard Museum to discover the history of Manchester from renown Pennacook fishing grounds to the home of today’s cutting-edge companies. Travel at your own pace or take an audio tour through the permanent Woven in Time gallery. Begin by exploring the interactive Wall of Fame and discover how some familiar or new faces made an impact well beyond Manchester. Meet John & Molly Stark and their role in the American Revolution. Learn how over 100 years, the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company grew to become the largest textile manufacturer in the world and shaped the city. Discover how the resilience and perseverance of the community after Amoskeag shut down transformed Manchester into a sustainable home of diverse industries and peoples.

Grab lunch in the Millyard district and then continue your exploration by heading upstairs to the SEE Science Center where you can see just how expansive the Amoskeag Millyard was by viewing the LEGO® Millyard model. This permanent model is built with more than 3 million LEGO® pieces and is the largest permanent LEGO® installation at minifigure scale in the world, as recognized by Guinness World Records®.

At SEE everone can be curious. Toddlers to seniors can discuss and guess which ball track will have the fastest time, then test their results again and again. Everyone can try exhibits on forces, momentum and engineering. If you are traveling with the younger set, spend time in the play kitchen and lab or explore everyone’s first science discovery: dinosaurs. Head over to the stage for a demo or head downstairs to discover human biology and the development of biomanufacturing in Manchester. Take a dive into the ocean themed exhibit area; play with bubbles; explore light, electricity & magnetism; have a pulley chair race and much more.
